Description:

The School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics, Newcastle
University, UK is looking to appoint a fixed-term (two year) full-time post
in the History of the English Language. With this appointment, we seek to
consolidate the provision of teaching excellence and enhance further the
School's expertise in the delivery of courses in English Language. Although
we are particularly seeking applicants with a secondary specialism in
phonology, we also welcome applications from scholars with secondary
interests in semantics/pragmatics or syntax so as to complement existing
expertise within the School. The successful candidate will develop and
deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in English historical
linguistics. The appointment forms part of the School's strategic plan to
sustain its expertise and international recognition in English Language.
The successful candidate will also be asked to support the research culture
of the Centre for Research in Linguistics and Language Science. The
candidate should have an existing or developing record of research
publications, and firm plans in place for future projects. In addition, it
is expected that all lecturing staff will contribute to stage 1 teaching
and will participate in the School's thriving postgraduate culture by
teaching on its MA programme and supervising PhD students. All staff also
take a share in the administrative tasks essential to the running of the
School.
