Description:
The Centre for General Linguistics (ZAS) invites applications for a
full-time research position in Experimental Semantics/Pragmatics with a
starting date of February 1, 2012 or soon after subject to final
availability of funding. The initial appointment is maximally until
December 31, 2013. Renewal beyond this date is not precluded, but depends
on the continued availability of federal funds to the ZAS.
The ZAS is a research institute of the State of Berlin receiving major
financial support from the German Federal Government. Its six main
divisions currently focus on the general research program 'Embedding,
linkage and constituent boundaries in speech, grammar and discourse'. It
offers in-house experimental facilities for phonetics and eye-tracking
(Tobii T60). EEG and possibly other methods could be conveniently accessed
through local collaborations. Also, the language acquisition group at the
ZAS is open for collaboration. For statistical analyses, the software R is
available.
Duties are primarily research oriented which can include some
administration and acquisition of external funding. In addition, the
appointment carries a teaching load of one class per year, which can be
held at any university in the Berlin area. The position can be used to
pursue the habilitation (German postdoctoral degree). The position is
remunerated according to E13 of the German TVOeD payscale.
Applicants must have completed their Ph.D by the time of appointment. Ideal
applicants have some post-doc research experience already. Applicants are
expected to (i) have a strong backgrounds in both theoretical linguistics
(specifically semantics and pragmatics) and experimental methodology, and
(ii) proven research experience and an active research agenda experimental
semantics/pragmatics. Special consideration will be given to applicants
whose research integrates well with the existing strengths of the ZAS and
its core research program.
