Meeting Description:
We are happy to announce that 'The World of Reflexives' workshop is going to be held at Utrecht University on August 25-27, 2011.
Our workshop is focusing on universals capturing cross-linguistic similarities in conditions on anaphoric relations. All languages have elements that for their interpretation may or must depend on another element (their antecedent). One of the approaches to explain the cross-linguistic patterns of anaphora is by decomposing them into more elementary principles, in part language independent (Everaert 1986, Reinhart & Reuland 1991, 1993, Reuland 2001, 2011). The internal structure of a reflexive and the properties of its subparts can also give clues on how the dependency relations are established.
The aim of the workshop is to bring together theoretical linguists and language experts and to discuss a wide range of anaphora related phenomena in less described languages.
Invited Speakers:
Peter Cole (University of Delaware)
Claire Moyse-Faurie (LACITO-CNRS)
Johan Rooryck & Guido van den Wyngaerd (Leiden University, HU Brussels)
Karumuri V. Subbarao (University of Hyderabad)
