Description:

The Phonetics Laboratory of the Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and 
Phonetics seeks to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on 
the project 'Word Joins in real-life speech: a large corpus-based study' with 
Professor John Coleman (PI) and Dr Ros Temple. 
	
Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience in the methods of 
experimental phonetics and/or speech signal processing which will make a 
substantial contribution to the completion of the two linguistic research 
components of the project: (1) a study of word-final consonant assimilations, 
and (2) a study of word-final "t/d deletion"; both of these are based on the 
spoken English audio recordings of the British National Corpus, which we 
have digitized and are currently preparing for public release.

Candidates should possess a higher degree in phonetics or in linguistics with 
a specialism in phonetics, or another relevant discipline concerned with the 
analysis of speech. Excellent IT, literacy and numeracy skills, as well as the 
ability to manage one's own research activities within guidelines provided by 
senior colleagues, will also be an advantage.

The post is funded by the ESRC and is fixed-term, with an end date of 31 
March 2013. The post is full time.
