Description:
The Linguistics Department of the Faculty of Philology is seeking to fill the
position of
W2-Professor of General Linguistics (Specialization: Language Typology)
to begin on April 1, 2012.
Within the larger field of general linguistics, the holder of this position will
conduct both teaching and research in the area of language typology.
Applicants are expected to have an excellent scientific record in this area
and to have carried out research that is internationally visible. Candidates
should have research foci in both morphology and syntax. In addition, they
should have peer-reviewed publications reporting in-depth studies on
typologically different non-Indo-European languages; and they should
have excellent knowledge of current theories of grammar, documented in
both teaching and research.
Candidates are required to have successfully submitted grant proposals
before, and to have carried out research projects with researchers
employed by these grants. Furthermore, candidates should be prepared to
participate in cooperative research activities (like a projected graduate
program, a future DFG Research Unit, and ultimately perhaps a
Collaborative Research Centre (Sonderforschungsbereich, SFB) ).
The professorship will involve teaching duties at both graduate (Master)
and undergraduate (BA) levels.
Rights and duties associated with the position are due to the university
law of Saxony (SaechsHSG) and the regulation of service duties of
Saxony. Candidates must fulfill the preconditions for employment
according to § 58 SaechsHSG. The Leipzig University attaches
importance to equal treatment of women and men. Seriously disabled

qualification.
