A Young Researchers Conference on 'British and American TV Series'
25 February 2012
We have the pleasure to invite M.A. and PhD students interested in linguistics, culture studies, media studies, and sociology to participate in the conference organized by the 'Texts & Codes' student society at the Institute of English Studies, University of Lodz, Poland. Though our society is mainly linguistically/semiotically oriented, we fully appreciate the importance of interdisciplinary research, which is particularly relevant in the case of the broad theme of our conference.
Depending on the number of prospective participants, the conference may be extended to two days (25-26 February 2012).
There is no conference fee.
The venue for the conference will be the Institute of English Studies in Lodz, al. Kosciuszki 65. We can advise you on finding accommodation.

Call for Papers:
We invite papers concerning (but not limited to) the following areas:
- The linguistic characteristics of the particular series
- The interaction of the verbal and non-verbal elements
- Intertextuality
- Humor and the absurd
- Perspectives and points of view
- The social and cultural contexts of the series
Abstracts of 200-300 words should be sent to textscodes at gmail.com by 4 February 2012 at the latest.
The language of the conference is English. The presentation time is 20 minutes, plus 10 minutes for discussion. A selection of the papers (positively reviewed as fulfilling academic criteria) may be accepted for publication.
