Description:

Reed College seeks applications for a one-year visiting position in
Linguistics at the Assistant Professor level for the 2011-12 academic year,
to commence August 2011. 

We are interested in outstanding candidates from all areas of linguistics.
However, we especially invite applications from candidates with a strong
teaching and research specialization in 2 or more of the following areas:
sociolinguistics (a focus on languages/communities outside the United
States is preferred), pragmatics and discourse analysis, historical
linguistics, language acquisition, semantics, or the structure of sign
languages. Candidates with experience in experimental or computational
methods, and/or research on an under-studied language or language family,
are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience in teaching and advising
student research projects is also highly desirable. PhD or ABD in
Linguistics required for appointment.

Reed College is a selective liberal arts institution with a commitment to
teaching excellence and scholarship. The appointee will join a small but
comprehensive undergraduate linguistics department and offer five semester
courses over the academic year. The position also involves supervising
year-long senior thesis projects on a wide array of topics within linguistics.
