Description:
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is the largest government-funded
tertiary institution in Hong Kong in terms of student number. It offers
programmes at Doctorate, Master's, Bachelor's degrees and Higher Diploma
levels. It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,200. The
total consolidated expenditure budget of the University is in excess of
HK$4 billion per year.
Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies
Senior Lecturer in Chinese Language Centre
The Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies is strong in Applied
Language Studies. It offers bachelor, master, and doctoral programmes in
Translating & Interpreting, Bilingual Corporate Communication, Chinese
Linguistics, Chinese Language Teaching, and Teaching Chinese as a second
language. The Department has a total of 68 academic staff members. Please

The appointee will be required to (a) assist the Director of the Chinese
Language Centre in the planning of new courses and other academic and
scholarly initiatives, including the planning and execution of Chinese
language subjects for the new four-year curriculum; (b) manage all
activities associated with teaching, curriculum design and development of
teaching materials; (c) facilitate collaborations with other departments;
(d) engage in the teaching and learning activities; and (e) take part in
the Centre's administration and consultancy, conduct scholarly activities,
and contribute to the strategic initiatives of the University.
Applicants should have (a) a PhD degree in the field of Chinese Language
and Literature or Applied Linguistics in relation to Chinese Language
pedagogy, plus substantial years of teaching in a relevant academic
discipline; (b) an outstanding level of knowledge, skills and competence in
the appropriate academic discipline including Chinese Language and
Literature, Curriculum Design, and preferably Applied Linguistics; (c) an
extensive and successful academic record in teaching, scholarship and
course curriculum development, etc; (d) the ability to use Chinese and
English effectively for formal communication in both spoken and written
forms; (e) evidence of academic leadership and sound administrative
experience including management and curriculum development, etc; (f) a
strong commitment to excellence in assessment, teaching and professional
service; and (g) the ability to use Cantonese, Putonghua and English as a
medium of instruction.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service:
Salary offered will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.
Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Remuneration
package will be highly competitive. Applicants should state their current
