Full Title: Workshop on Phonetic Grounding in English Phonology
Short Title: ISLE -2
Date: 17-Jun-2011 - 21-Jun-2011
Location: Boston, MA, USA
Contact Person: Toshihiro Oda
Meeting Email: tonaniwa at dd.mbn.or.jp
Linguistic Field(s): Phonetics; Phonology
Call Deadline: 15-Feb-2011
Meeting Description:
Relative to the phonological bases (sonority, features, 'abstract')
frequently addressed in 1970s and 1980s, functionalist literature has
been centered, since 1995, by phonetic bases, where the conditioning
under which phonological entities operate stems from physical activity:
movement, posture, duration, easiness or difficulty, air flow, (in-
)compatibility, constriction, etc.
Call for Papers:
Phonologists doing this line of research are encouraged to present a
paper. At present, 30 minutes including presentation and question are
expected. The slots for the presenters other than the invited speakers are
ca. 4 or 5. Any topics with respect to English phonology and phonetic
motivation are welcome. Please email the organizer of this workshop
(tonaniwa at dd.mbn.or.jp) in order to notice your interest in presenting a
paper not later than February 5, prior to the submission of abstracts on
February 15. The abstract is one page with or without references. Please
also inform me of equipment you need.
