Deadline for abstracts: September 15, 2011

Innovative approaches to L2 teaching and learning

Nearly a quarter of a century ago, van Lier (1988) defined the second
language (L2) classroom as a ''gathering, for a given period of time, of
two or more persons (one of whom generally assumes the role of instructor)
for the purposes of language learning'' (p. 47). While this definition
still seems to hold true today, what actually takes place in the L2
classroom and its theoretical foundations have developed at rapid speeds.
Indeed, in a world of marvel technology, it appears more appropriate than
ever to acknowledge recent developments and changing emphases in the field
of L2 acquisition through a state-of-the-art overview of innovative
approaches to L2 teaching and learning. As such, this edited volume will
include a stimulating collection of articles from international researchers
aimed at applied linguists, specialists in pedagogy, and anyone interested
in L2 teaching and learning. It will present engaging discussions of
innovative approaches to L2 teaching and learning that are solidly grounded
in prominent theories of L2 acquisition. The volume will serve as a
valuable resource, not only for teachers and researchers, but for anyone
wishing to gain an overview of some of the most promising innovative
possibilities in L2 teaching and learning.

Abstracts are solicited that highlight theoretical and practical innovative
approaches to teaching and learning of non-native languages and expand the
avenues of exploration available within their theoretical frameworks. The
goals and implications of the proposal should be clearly defined and
contextualized in terms of their contribution to L2 teaching and learning.
Abstracts are especially welcome that adopt experimental or classroom-based
methods through the analysis of quantitative or qualitative data. 

Potential authors are invited to submit in English a 500-word abstract plus
a brief summary of the abstract (up to 100 words) and a few lines about the
author(s) to the editor by September 15, 2011.

Abstract deadline: September 15, 2011 
Notification of acceptance: October 15, 2011
Full chapter deadline: April 15, 2012 (targeted)
Final version deadline: July 15, 2012 (targeted)
