Die Wissensvermittlung in Schule und Bildungseinrichtungen erfolgt 
überwiegend durch die Arbeit mit und an Texten. Textkompetenz ist daher 
eine Schlüsselkompetenz, die die Bildungs- und Zukunftschancen des 
Einzelnen in unserer Gesellschaft grundlegend beeinflusst. Für Kinder und 
Jugendliche mit Migrationshintergrund ist fehlende Textkompetenz eine der 
Hauptursachen für schulisches Scheitern.

In diesem Buch werden grundlegende Zusammenhänge und Faktoren 
untersucht, die bei der Entwicklung und Förderung von Textkompetenz in der 
Zweitsprache eine Rolle spielen. Die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit lassen bisher 
vorherrschende Konzepte zur Förderung von Zweitsprachenlernenden in 
mehrsprachigen Klassen in einem grundlegend neuen Licht erscheinen. Die 
Autorin stellt darauf aufbauend ihr Konzept der Literalen Didaktikvor: Ein 
theoretisch fundiertes und in der Praxis einfach umsetzbares didaktisches 
Instrumentarium zur Förderung von Textkompetenz, dessen Prinzipien und 
Verfahren in allen Unterrichtsfächern flexibel anwendbar und über die 
Förderung der Textkompetenz von Zweitsprachen lernenden in
