Description:
The Department of Education at the University of York is offering an
ESRC-sponsored 3-year scholarship to a candidate who wants to study for a
full-time PhD in the area of language learning, education and social justice,
science education, or other aspects of education

The Centre for Language Learning Research currently comprises ten members of
academic staff. Its primary objective is to lead cutting edge inter-disciplinary
research relating to language learning and language in education, encompassing
foreign, second, bilingual and first language acquisition and the relations between
them.
Candidates should hold, or expect to hold by 31st September 2011, an MA which:
1) is ESRC-recognised; OR
2) contains enough research training to meet the requirements in sections D, E
and F of the ESRC Postgraduate Training Guidelines Fourth Edition 2005
(http://www.esrc.ac.uk/funding-and-
guidance/guidance/postgraduates/ptguidelines.aspx),
OR
3) meets most of the requirements, so that gaps can be addressed by receiving
additional training at our university, AND
4) was obtained not more than 5 years ago. If the Master qualification was
awarded 5 or more years ago, it will be necessary to provide evidence of more
recent research training qualifications and/or experience.
Importantly, candidates should both (1) apply to and be accepted on the
programme and (2) submit an ESRC scholarship application form BY 31st
MARCH.
Late applications will not be considered. It is therefore necessary that
