BCALS is proud to host the 4th Bloomsbury Student Conference in Applied Linguistics. This conference is designed for students from all levels of study who wish to share their work and gain conference-presenting experience.
We are pleased to announce our keynote and plenary speakers for this year's conference. Both scholars are eminent in their fields and have been gracious enough to share their research and unique insights with us this year.
Keynote Speaker: Jonathan A. Smith, Professor of Psychology, Birkbeck Universityof London
Presentation Title: 'Getting at Personal Experience: Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis'
Plenary Speaker: Gunther Kress, Professor of Semiotics and Education, Institute of Education, University of London
Presentation Title: 'Language: A Social Semiotic Approach'
Call for Papers:
Students may submit abstracts from working papers. There is an option for giving a paper or poster presentation.
Papers from the following fields will be accepted:
- Pragmatics
- Discourse Analysis
- Corpus Linguistics
- Language Education
- Sociolinguistics
- Intercultural Communication
- SLA
- Bilingualism/Multilingualism
- Neuro/Psycholinguistics
- Other related areas
Abstract Instructions:
Please send an electronic copy of your abstract to bcalsconference at gmail.com with the file name 'BCALS11_oneinitialsurname' (e.g., 'BCALS11_fbrown'), including:
- Title
- Name, affiliation and contact information (including address, telephone, email)
- 300 words maximum
- Include references, if any
- Specify paper or poster presentation
Presentation Guidelines:
- Individual presentations will be 20 minutes + 10 minutes question period
- Poster presentations will be available during a specified time slot for discussion
Important Dates:
Submission deadline: 25th March 2011
Notification date: 15th April 2011
