Description:

Roles and responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be responsible for constructing and
delivering valid and reliable language tests, as well as conducting and
publishing validation research. The role requires project managing the
development of new assessments through the various stages of construction,
from designing tasks and item specifications through to data collection,
validation, documentation and deployment. 

This full-time position requires working out of our offices in Palo Alto
together with a team of experts in fields such as linguistics, assessment,
and artificial intelligence.

Duties include:
-designing test tasks and writing test specifications
-test construction and piloting
-analyzing data and writing technical reports
-screening, training and managing groups of external consultants (item
writers, reviewers, transcribers, raters) 
-participating in technical customer support
-assisting customers with cut-score decisions based on their individual
requirements
-giving academic or technical presentations at meetings and conferences
-designing, carrying out and writing up validation experiments
-conducting original research for publication in the field of test
development and validation

Education and experience:
-a PhD in applied linguistics, language testing, educational measurement,
or related field 
-extensive experience in language test development, research and/or validation
-a proven track record of research or publications

Desirable qualities: 
-knowledge of programming such as SQL or Perl 
-competency in statistics or psychometrics (e.g. Rasch, IRT)
-fluency in more than one language
