Description:
The University of Guam is looking for an individual who is interested in
new challenges and opportunities for professional growth. This position
calls for someone who is adaptable, who possesses a global vision and who
is interested in working in a dynamic and multi-cultural institution.
The successful candidate for the Chamorro Language faculty position is
expected to (1) teach a normal load of 12 credits (or contact hours) per
semester, with load allocations possible for research or instructional
innovation, subject to the Dean's approval; (2) maintain a continuous
record of scholarly research or creative activity, preferably on topics
relevant to the region; (3) perform university and community service; and
(4) the candidate must be prepared to teach using a variety of modalities,
including distance education.
Minimum: The tenure-track position requires an earned master's degree from
a U.S. regionally-accredited institution or foreign equivalent in a field
related to Chamorro language teaching and scholarship (e.g., Micronesian
Studies; Pacific Studies; Linguistics, or a closely related field such as
Education); Chamorro language proficiency (speaking, listening, reading,
writing) at an advanced academic level; evidence of an active agenda for
research or scholarly creative activity; ability to teach lower level
Chamorro language courses. For the non-tenure track hiring status, a
baccalaureate from a U.S. regionally-accredited institution or foreign
equivalent in a field related to Chamorro language teaching and
scholarship; as above is required.
Desirable: Two or more years of college or university experience teaching a
language with a multicultural student population; interest and ability to
develop outreach activities and distance education courses in Chamorro
language; demonstrate leadership in the coordination of events that promote
Chamorro language and culture.
The position is a nine (9) month position. If hired off-island on a three
year tenure track position, a travel expense will be provided for the
applicant and his/her immediate family (spouse and children, 18 years and
under) which includes one-way direct air route economy fare from point of
hire, and partial compensation for moving expenses of household goods from
point of recruitment (3,500 pounds per family or 1,750 pounds per applicant
without dependents will be provided).

creative interests and future plans); 3) curriculum vitae (including a list
of references); 4) three (3) current letters of recommendation. All
