Universal Subtitles is a free and open-source video translation and
captioning toolset and service. Universal Subtitles is growing very
quickly and being used by organizations like MIT, Al Jazeera, Alive in
Egypt, Kahn Academy, and many more. It has a collaborative model that
makes it easy to have multiple people involved in translation, for example
native speakers working at different times and locations.

We are starting to see some videos being submitted in rarer languages.
We're also starting to experiment with supporting other types of
time-aligned data that may be useful to linguists, like names of speakers,
locations, etc.

If you have any suggestions regarding how the toolset could be made to
work better for linguists, please contact Nicholas Reville at
