Description:
The Chair of English Linguistics at Bielefeld University, Germany, invites
applications for a position as a lecturer (Lehrkraft für besondere Aufgaben) in
the area of English linguistics (Kennziff.: wiss1740; see application URL
below) available from April 1, 2012 for two years with a possible extension.
Salary is according to the German TV-L E13 (100%) scale. Part-time work is
possible.
The candidate is expected to teach 13 hours of seminars (6-7
classes/semester) in English linguistics for bachelor and masters students of
English in at least two of the following areas: Phonetics and Phonology,
Syntax, Grammar, Morphology, Lexicology, Language Variation, Cognitive
Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Diachronic Linguistics,
Historical Linguistics. In addition the candidate is expected to supervise
bachelor/master theses, assist in the organization of the department and the
course of studies, participate in committee work as well as work in research
projects in the English Department: British and American Studies.
Desired qualifications:
- Successful completion of a university degree (Magister/master) in English
studies or first state exam (1. Staatsexmen) for teaching English in
secondary education, preferably with an emphasis on linguistics
- Interest in a research question in the area of English linguistics
- Excellent command of English (English as the medium of teaching)
Additional qualifications:
- Basic working knowledge of German
- Skilled use of standard computer programs
- Preferably a wide variety of teaching experience
