Specialty Areas: General Linguistics; Language Politics

Required Language(s): English (eng)

Description:

This is a fixed-term post working on the project 'English in Europe:
Opportunity or Threat?' funded by a Leverhulme Trust International Network
grant. Although based in the School of English at the University of Sheffield,
the network home is the Centre for Linguistic Research, an interdisciplinary
research centre within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The network which
this post supports links the Sheffield Centre with research centres at the
University of Copenhagen, Charles University in Prague, the University of
Zaragoza and City College, Thessaloniki (the University of Sheffield's
international faculty). The project itself will run for 2 ½ years from January
2012 and will host five international conferences exploring the changing role
and status of the English language in Europe.

The primary role is to support the five conferences which will take place
during the lifetime of the project. This will involve running the project website
(http://www.englishineurope.postgrad.shef.ac.uk/) and associated media,

This successful candidate will be part of a stimulating international network of

language issues of our time.

Applicants should possess a good degree and a doctoral qualification (or
have equivalent experience) in a relevant field. Applicants should also be able
to demonstrate experience of running an effective web site and maintaining
and developing a network of contacts. You will possess excellent planning
and organisational skills and have the ability to manage your own workload to
meet deadlines.

This is a fixed-term 30% post until the end of May 2014.

The post-holder will work with the principal investigator and network team in
the planning, advertising, coordination and running of the conferences and will
also coordinate the dissemination of the work of the project via conference
proceedings and electronic media.
