This award is intended to promote critical language scholarship and to
recognize and advance the academic work of emergent scholars who
have completed their doctoral dissertations within the past five years. It
honors the efforts of the founding members of the International Society
for Language Studies (ISLS) who established the first international
society dedicated to critical scholarship in language studies. Starting in
2012, the award will be granted once a year.

The award includes an opportunity for awardees to publish an article in
the society's journal, Critical Inquiry in Language Studies (CILS), or in
their Readings in Language Studies book series. Awardees will be
recognized at the society's biennual conference and will receive travel
stipends to cover a portion of their travel expenses.
