Dear Colleagues,

The Linguistics Program at the University of South Carolina solicits self-
nominations from distinguished faculty engaged in innovative pedagogy 
or research who wish to visit the Program and its affiliated units to 
conduct activities that enrich our Program's intellectual environment 
and enhance our graduate students' training. The Institute for Visiting 
Scholars, an initiative of the Office of the Provost to support short visits 
(periods ranging from two weeks to six months) from distinguished 
scholars, is dedicated to the enrichment of the intellectual and research 
endeavors necessary for faculty development by introducing leading 
research practices through workshops, seminars, and mentoring to 
increase the capacity of faculty. Working with teams of faculty or 
individual researchers and graduate students, these visiting scholars 
will assist in developing innovative practices to enhance knowledge 
and collaboration.

The Linguistics Program at the University of South Carolina is 
interdepartmental, with strong ties to anthropology; communication 
sciences and disorders; computer science and engineering; English 
language and literature; languages, literatures, and cultures; 
philosophy; and psychology; and also has strong ties to the office of 
English Programs for Internationals. The Graduate Program in 
Linguistics at USC is comprehensive in its scope and trains students to 
pursue research and teach in a wide range of linguistic subdisciplines 
that includes: French/German/Spanish linguistics, historical linguistics, 
philosophy of language and discourse analysis, phonological theory, 
psycholinguistics, second/foreign language acquisition and teaching, 
sociolinguistics and linguistic anthropology, and syntactic theory. For

The application review process is ongoing, with three target dates: 
Nov. 1, 2011 (with award notification January 31, 2012); Feb. 1, 2012 
(with award notification April 30, 2012); and, May 1, 2012 (with award 
notification June 30, 2012).
