Full Title: Journal of Rhetoric, Professional Communication, and Globalization
Linguistic Field(s): General Linguistics
Call Deadline: 15-Nov-2011
Call for Papers: Special Issue on Intercultural Digital Media
We welcome the submission of scholarly articles addressing the following
topics in digital rhetoric in global and intercultural contexts, including, but not
limited to:
- Situating digital rhetoric across cultures, understanding how both local and
global cultures fit and mutually construct digital rhetorical spaces.
- Understanding how large-scale communication technologies such as the
Internet or search engines or social sites map onto-and reconfigure-local and
global cultural and rhetorical traditions.
- Exploring how new digital media reconfigure many of the traditional
intercultural variables such as collective-individual, universal-particular, and
specific-diffuse, which strongly correlate with the older media of writing and
orality.
- Evaluating legal issues of privacy and new media around the world,
exploring both global and local conceptions of privacy in the digital age.
- Using the new media for distance education and e-training, focusing on the
connections among culture, education, rhetoric, and the new media.
- Exploring the cultural-rhetorical elements of internet search engines,
demonstrating their fit and reciprocity with global and local cultures.
- The relation of new media to global business, including finance, law, and
criminal justice.
- Exploring the new media and emerging democracies around the globe.
- Connecting advances in information and communication technologies to
development and social justice concerns around the world.
- Evaluate the digital space of online, collaborative learning and teaching
across the globe.
This special issue of Rhetoric, Professional Communication, and
Globalization invites proposals on how these and similar aspects of language
and culture intersect with digital environments. Proposals (up to 500 words)
for research papers, best practices*, and tutorials are due by November 15th,
2011. Review criteria can be found on the Journal's website at www.rpcg.org.
Proposals should be sent as an email attachment to global.jrpcg at gmail.com.
Authors will be notified of acceptance by December 15th, 2011. Manuscripts
will be due by April 15th, 2012.
*Authors may use the following optional framework for best practices pieces:
title, description, methods used, results, technologies used, and lessons
learned. While the proposal and review process is the same for research
papers, tutorials, and best practices pieces, final manuscripts for best
practices should be shorter: approximately 1000 to 3000 words in length.
