Lecturer in Language and Linguistics

The postholder will contribute to teaching and research in Language and
Linguistics. Applicants must have experience of teaching and examining
Language and Linguistics at tertiary level, in one or more of the following
areas: sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, phonetics, phonology, semantics
or language acquisition. Fixed-term from 1 August 2012 until 31 December
2014.
Main Duties:
1. In conjunction with colleagues, to contribute actively to courses such as
B.Sc (Hons) Language and Linguistics and its pathways, the MSc
Language and Linguistics, plus relevant service teaching.
2. To supervise across all undergraduate and postgraduate students
undertaking projects and dissertations.
3. To participate in postgraduate course development within the area of
Language and Linguistics.
4. The person appointed will be required to teach in one or more of the
following areas of Linguistics: Sociolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, Phonetics,
Phonology, Semantics, or Language Acquisition.
5. To undertake administrative duties in support of programmes.
6. To maintain a research profile in Linguistics and to become involved in
collaborative research.
7. To maintain knowledge of current developments in the practice and
study of Linguistics, including knowledge of a range of current theories
underpinning the study of Language and Linguistics and/or Sociolinguistics.
8. To be involved in the ongoing quality review and improvement of the
courses on which they teach, in the administration of these courses, and in
the development of new courses commensurate with the mission and
strategic plan of the School.
9. Any other duties appropriate to the grade and nature of the post.
