It is our pleasure to announce the International Conference on Urban Multilingualism and Education (UME). This scientific conference will take place in Ghent, Belgium on 7-8 March 2013.
The 5 central themes of the Urban Multilingualism & Education conference are (the list is not exhaustive):
Codeswitching, translanguaging and multilingual resources in classrooms
Language assessment in a multilingual environment
Education and language learning in a globalized world
L1-Ln acquisition in context
Multilingual pedagogies and mediation strategies
Call for Papers:
The UME Organising Committee welcomes papers related to the conference theme 'Urban Multilingualism and Education'. The official conference language will be English. Two categories of proposal will be considered: (i) individual papers, (ii) thematic panels.
Papers and thematic panels are submitted for a specific strand:
Codeswitching, translanguaging, and multilingual resources in classrooms
Language assessment in a multilingual environment
Education and language learning in a globalised world
L1-Ln acquisition in context
Multilingual pedagogies and mediation strategies
Each author may submit one individual abstract and one co-authored abstract. Abstracts will be reviewed anonymously by the UME Scientific Committee and will be evaluated in terms of their relevance to the theme of the conference and/or their theoretical background and research design.
