Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics; Language Acquisition; Sociolinguistics

Subject Language(s): English (eng)

Call Deadline: 29-Jun-2012

Meeting Description:

In spite of widespread recognition of the importance of English as a foreign language, and continued intensive research into English teaching and learning in this environment, there is a feeling in many quarters that EFL pedagogy has stagnated in some aspects. Few new theoretical approaches have emerged in recent years to challenge the dominant communicative paradigm, and while computer assisted language learning has become an established part of most English programs, it has not brought about the revolution in classroom practice that some early enthusiasts predicted.

This year's Chia Nan University International Conference on English Teaching and Learning challenges teachers and researchers to step outside of the mainstream and, like our keynote speaker Dr. Holly Wilson of Alliant International University, share ideas about teaching English that reflect changing student profiles, changing socio-political landscapes, changing environments, changing technologies and changing lifestyles.

Call for Papers:

In addition to inviting papers from TEFL teachers and researchers, we encourage presentations from those working outside the mainstream of TEFL. This might include teachers whose work does not specifically focus on English teaching, but who need to assist students use English within their own disciplines. We invite you to submit proposals for paper presentations, workshops or project-based poster presentations on topics that include (but not limited to):

- Theories of foreign language learning/acquisition
- Learner-centered instructional approaches
- Teaching general/professional English
- Teaching for proficiency tests
- Using technology in language teaching
- Language education policy & planning
- Integrating the learning of language and culture

Submission:

Please submit the abstract of your proposal before Friday, June 29, 2012. The acceptance of proposal will be announced on Friday, August 3, 2012. The deadline for full paper submission is on Friday, September 14, 2012. All accepted papers will be blindly reviewed and published after the conference. For submission guidelines, the suggested length of the abstract is 200 words plus 3 key words, and the full paper is 10,000 words maximum. The paper proposal written in English should employ WORD 2007 or above, following APA style. Please send the proposal along with the author profile to 2012tefl at gmail.com, under the subject of '2012tefl abstract- applicant's name' or '2012tefl paper- applicant's name'.
