Description:
World Family English and its affiliated companies have been
creating the highest quality ESL materials for children for more than
thirty years. Our acclaimed Disney's World of English learning
system and Play Along! program introduce children to English in
infancy and allow them to continue learning and having fun through
elementary school. Our World Family Club services allow our
learners to practice their English skills with native English speakers
through fun and interactive activities and events. World Family
English is also developing on-line and other learning programs and
services for older learners and adults.
The Role:
We are looking for creative, enthusiastic language education
specialists to develop new programs for older learners and to assist
in enhancing existing programs.
Ideal candidates will be trained linguists and ESL/ELL professionals
with overlapping experience in IT and e-learning. Individuals must be
enthusiastic about the application of new technologies to ESL/ELL
products and services. They should also be active users of the
Internet and emerging platforms such as smart phones, tablets, and
other Internet-enabled devices. Candidates must use and
understand the principles of social networking systems as well as
other socially-driven UGC networks and systems.
Candidates would initially be working on developing Internet
learning materials, systems and services for children and
adolescents aged 7 to 18, and assisting in ongoing projects to
enhance existing programs and services for younger learners.
Further development work would include creating platforms for
digital publishing and delivery, integration of physical and virtual
products, and support services such as face-to-face interaction in
learning centers, telephone and video lessons, and apps for devices
such as the iPad and iPhone. Work will be based in Bermuda and
will involve periodic travel to our markets in Asia (Japan, Taiwan,
Hong Kong, Mainland China, and South Korea).
Requirements:
- Master's or Ph.D. in applied or theoretical linguistics, child
development, and/or bilingual education
- Familiarity with web systems, e-learning, SCORM, and emerging
CALL and e-learning technologies
- Familiarity with CMS/LMS platforms, functions and features
- A thorough understanding of linguistics and, more specifically,
natural language acquisition principles
Preferred, But Not Required:
- Familiarity with principles of child development, psychology and
cognition
- Programming / coding skills (preferred programming languages
include flash, actionscript, and objective C)
Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's expertise
and experience.
