Description:
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison is pleased to announce our recently launched Spanish M.A.
Program with concentration in Linguistics. The Department offers a Teaching
Assistant line to most accepted applicants. There are also other possibilities
for financial support for applicants fitting the relevant criteria.
The Spanish M.A. program with a concentration in linguistics consists of 24
credits (plus a two-credit course, College Teaching of Spanish, required of
all new Teaching Assistants). The MA is designed to offer comprehensive
training in the core subject areas of linguistics. Classes provide students
with an advanced understanding of methods and concepts across linguistics,
from cutting-edge theory to practical research work. Information about course

Our faculty offers courses in the core subject areas of Linguistics, while
also offering the possibility to focus on Formal Spanish Linguistics,
Dialectology, Sociolinguistics/Variation, Philology/Historical Linguistics,
and Applied Spanish Linguistics. The Department has an excellent placement
record for its graduates.
