We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.
To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

For a paper on words used to refer to concepts of ''age/ageing/elderly'' in
marketing consumer products (e,g, clothing, cosmetics, residential
options, travel, etc.), I am seeking any corpora based on advertising
materials (that is, where advertising text is included and identified in
the annotation). I am aware that COCA - Corpus of Contemporary American
English -- includes magazines and newspapers but does not (I believe, and
will verify), include the advertising content from those genres.
Also, for the same purpose, I would appreciate any references to content
analyses focused on such words whether in advertising or generally. I am
aware of Mautner's 2007 study on ''elderly'' in Language and Society, and
Krekula's 2009 article on age-coding in the ''Language & Society Research
Committtee's Newsletter.''
I will compile responses received within a couple of weeks and circulate
the result to any who have responded; please indicate if you don't want that.
Thanks in advance,
Corinne Kirchner
