Meeting Description:
Computational Linguistics Workshop on Austronesian Languages
CLW/AL 2012 @12ICAL
http://chl.anu.edu.au/linguistics/projects/clw
The Computational Linguistics Workshop on Austronesian Languages will be collocated with 12ICAL at Udayana University (Denpasar Campus), Bali, Indonesia (http://chl.anu.edu.au/linguistics/projects/ical-lfg).
In comparison to English and a number of widely spoken languages of Europe, languages of South East Asia and the Oceanic regions are relatively under-resourced in the development of natural language processing applications. As such, the text processing for these languages requires a more linguistically informed approach, incorporating more knowledge about the structure and meaning of the language.
This workshop aims to spark a more cross-disciplinary approach to computational linguistics and natural language processing, as well as contribute to the body of work that applies computational methods to inform, as well as drive linguistic analysis.
Call for Papers:
We invite the submission of papers on original and unpublished research on various aspects of computational linguistics and natural language processing for languages in the Pacific and Oceanic regions.
Topics include, but not limited to:
- Phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and discourse
- Lexicography, lexical resources, and lexical semantics
- Natural language generation
- Linguistic formalisms and grammar engineering
- Corpus-based and statistical language modelling
- Machine translation and translation aids
- Question answering and information extraction
- Summarisation
We welcome submissions on any topic that is of interest to the Computational Linguistics and Austronesian Linguistics community. We especially encourage submissions that integrate aspects of both disciplines.
