Dear LINGUIST List Subscribers and Supporters,

At the close of our first challenge, we are amazed by your overwhelming support! We have already received $8,231 in donations. Thats slightly over 12% percent of the total we need, donated in the first 36 hours. Although this one-day challenge is over, we still have $58,769 to go, and many great gifts and services to give out. Imagine if we could maintain this pace, how quickly we could complete fund drive this year!

We are so thankful for all of our donors, and want to recognize a few heroic performances from the start of Fund Drive:

Subfield Challenge: Syntax

Syntax is dominating the field battle with an overwhelming $1505 donated so far. Computational linguistics is also showing valiantly in second with donations totaling $506. To see where your subfield stands, click here:

Grad School Challenge: University of Washington

Last years champion, University of Washington, continues to reign triumphant in the Grad school Challenge with $390 in donations. But this match will be exciting, with The Ohio State University close behind with $335, University of California Santa Barbara bringing in $310, and University of Toronto hitting the $300 mark. Find out who has represented your institution here:

We have not one, but two very generous donors who each contributed $300, making them the highest donors of the day! While we will be sending them both an extra special thank you gift, we want to thank ALL of our incredible donors for making the opening of our Fund Drive so wonderful.

Dont worry if you werent able to take part in our first challenge. There is still time to donate and support both your favorite subfield and school!

Most sincere thanks,

The LINGUIST Crew

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as
such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered
501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These
donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax
return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site,
or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match
any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your
contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the
EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a
simple administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to
LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
