Linguistic Field(s): Discourse Analysis
Call Deadline: 15-Sep-2012
Meeting Description:
AIEMCA brings together and showcases Australasian research from within the paradigms of Ethnomethodology, Conversation Analysis, and Membership Categorisation Analysis. This year we invite research on the theme of Knowledge and Asymmetries in Action. One of the strengths of the EM/CA/MCA paradigm is the ability to demonstrate the consequentiality of the sequential deployment of members' knowledge(s) in interaction and/or the relevance of asymmetries to members in interaction.
Venue:
The conference will be held in at The Ship Inn, in the heart of Brisbane at Southbank. What was once a rowdy sailor's drinking den has been transformed into a civilised Gastro Pub complete with a separate and impressive function and convention facility catering for up to 200 guests.
Call for Papers:
We encourage a diverse range of both topically- and methodologically-oriented papers that speak broadly to this theme, but would also welcome papers on other issues including, but not limited to:
- Epistemics in conversation
- Asymmetry as action
- Membership resources for action
- Place, space, and body in interaction
- Settings or topics, e.g. medicine, education, work, play, relationships, technology etc.
We are also soliciting proposals for panels on issues including, but not limited to:
- Settings or topics, e.g. medicine, education, work, play, relationships, technology etc.
- Methodological themes, e.g. Multi-modal analysis, Computer-aided EM/CA/MCA analysis
- Disciplinary themes, e.g. EM/CA/MCA pedagogy, current debates, future challenges
Sessions:
There will be 4 session slots per day of 1.5 hours each (plus keynotes):
1) For individual papers there will be 3 papers per session. Papers will be presented within a 20 minute slot with an additional 10 minutes for discussion.
2) Panels may include more papers per session but will still be limited to 1.5 hours total duration.
3) If submission numbers are very high, participants may be asked if they would accept taking part in a panel designed by the conference committee.
Selected papers may also be combined into a special issue of a journal (to be announced).

Abstracts should be submitted via plain text email to: aiemca2012 at gmail.com.
