Description:
The University of Alaska Fairbanks announces a term Assistant Professor
position in Linguistics for the Academic Year 2012-2013 to teach a
variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in Linguistics, including
applied linguistics (second language acquisition and second language
teaching). The successful candidate will be required to have a PhD in
Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or related discipline by time of
appointment. Applicant must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. We
seek a candidate with a record of excellent teaching in Linguistics and/or
Applied Linguistics to teach six semester-length courses during the year.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in
Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. Although exact courses will depend
on the applicant, courses will include Introduction to Linguistics, and
courses in general and applied Linguistics, Description and
Documentation. The Masters level degree program in Applied Linguistics
includes students working on ESL, foreign languages, and Alaska Native
languages.
Applications must be received by July 9th. Initial application should
include a letter of application stating qualifications, professional
interests, and teaching philosophy, a CV, a signed UA application form,
and three letters of reference.
We anticipate that interviews will begin the week of July 16th and be
conducted by telephone or Skype. The first day of instruction is August
30, 2012.
