Description:

The Department of Humanities at Northumbria University invites applications for
2012-13 entry to its MRes in Language and Cognition. The MRes is a masters
programme based around individual students' research projects. The MRes is
available as a full-time one-year or two-year part-time programme (please note
that the studentships only apply to the one year full-time route). The
Department offers up to seven studentships to cover the cost of fees. These are
open to home/EU and International students.

The MRes in Language and Cognition is a unique interdisciplinary programme which
builds on two areas of particular research strength at Northumbria: cognitive
linguistics (including social cognition and cognitive approaches to discourse
analysis) in the Department of Humanities and psycholinguistics in the
Department of Psychology (School of Life Sciences). The programme explores the
relationship between language and cognition from a linguistic and psychological
point of view and introduces students to a broad range of research
methodologies, from corpus analyses to eye tracking and ERPs. It will appeal to
graduates of English language, modern languages, linguistics, psychology, and
cognitive science. Although it is a stand-alone degree, it is anticipated that a
significant proportion of the students will continue on to a PhD; hence there is
a strong emphasis on research methods and independent research.

The deadline for the studentship application is Friday 22 June 2012 with
interviews due to take place in the week beginning 2 July 2012.

Informal enquiries can be addressed to the Programme Director, Professor Regina
Weinert, regina.weinert at northumbria.ac.uk

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as
such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered
501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These
donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax
return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site,
or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match
any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your
contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the
EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a
simple administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to
LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.
