Location: Lisbon, Portugal
Contact Person: Tjerk Hagemeijer
Meeting Email: t.hagemeijer at clul.ul.pt
Linguistic Field(s): General Linguistics
Language Family(ies): Creole
Call Deadline: 27-May-2012
Meeting Description:
This workshop is a follow-up of two previous workshops, namely FACS I, which was held in 2008 at CASTL, University of Tromsoe, and FACS II, held in 2010 at ZAS, Berlin. The goal of the workshop is to bring together scholars who share an interest in the formal study of Creole languages. Highlighting the more formal issues surrounding Creole formation may help us shed light on the various ways in which Creole languages come into being as well as their diverse grammatical properties. At the same time, it may enhance the interaction between theoretical linguists and researchers 'in the field'. We therefore invite abstracts that address theoretical and formal aspects in Creole Studies, from all subfields of research.
Invited Speakers:
Michel DeGraff (MIT)
Jorge Rocha (CIBIO/Universidade do Porto)
Organizers:
Fernanda Pratas (Universidade Nova de Lisboa)
Nélia Alexandre (Universidade de Lisboa)
Tjerk Hagemeijer (Universidade de Lisboa)
Call for Papers:
We invite submissions of abstracts for 30-minute presentations (plus 10-minute discussions). Abstracts should be no longer than one page US Letter or A4 with one inch (2.5 cm) margins, single spaced, with a font size of 12pt, and with normal character spacing. A second page may be used for examples, figures, tables or references. The preferred submission format is pdf, but you can also send your abstract in .doc, .txt or .rtf format. Send your name, affiliation and email address in the body of the email message, and not in the abstract itself. The abstracts will be reviewed anonymously.
Abstracts should be sent to: t.hagemeijer at clul.ul.pt.

Notification of acceptance: June 29, 2012

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as
such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered
501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These
donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax
return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site,
or contact your financial advisor.
Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match
any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your
contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the
EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a
simple administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to
LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.
Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
