Description:
The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) is one of the largest universities
in Finland. The UEF is a multidisciplinary university, which offers
teaching in more than 100 major subjects. The university has approximately
15,000 students and some 2,800 members of staff, and the university's
campuses are located in Joensuu, Kuopio and Savonlinna.
The University of Eastern Finland is inviting applications for the
following position:
Language Centre
English Senior Lecturer (position no 31739), Kuopio Campus
The duties of the Senior Lecturer (the University Lecturer) will mainly
focus on teaching academic and professional English and advanced writing
and communication skills to postgraduate and undergraduate students and
staff members of the University of Eastern Finland on both of its main
campuses Kuopio and Joensuu. In addition, the lecturer participates in
administration related to teaching, language testing, development of
teaching and other activities at the Language Centre, and encourages
research in related fields.
The position will be filled with an open-ended contract as from 1 August
2012 and it is subject to a trial period of four months (general
regulations on the employment relationship at the University of Eastern
Finland, 30 Nov. 2009.)
The salary of the position is based on level 6 (EUR 3254,17/month) of the
job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff in the
universities' salary system. In addition, a performance-based salary
component of up to 46.3 % of the job requirement component will be paid.
According to the UEF Administrative Regulations, the appointee to the
position of the Senior Lecturer (the University Lecturer) is required to
have a suitable doctoral degree related to field of the position, in this
case English language and advanced LSP-teaching, an ability to use English
to a native speaker's academic standard and to have good teaching skills.
Experience in teaching on tertiary level, skills in using modern teaching
technology, and research work relevant to the position will be considered
as extra merits.
To successfully attend to the duties of the position, the lecturer should
be cooperative, flexible and willing to develop both his/her own work and
the activities of the Language Centre. An interest in applied linguistic
research is desirable.
The teaching skills of the applicants will be evaluated on the basis of
pedagogical studies, teaching experience, portfolio of teaching merits and
demonstration lecture. The applicants will be informed of the dates and
times of personal interviews and demonstration lectures later.
