Description:

(Disciplinary Writing/English for Specific Purposes - Interdisciplinary
Appointment)

Duties:
Assist in teaching, curriculum development and administration of
programs in discipline-specific English for students in various schools
and colleges across the University including the College of Science and
Engineering, the College of Business, the College of Liberal Arts and
Social Sciences, the School of Law, the School of Creative Media, and
the School of Energy and Environment; conduct research related to
fields such as disciplinary writing, English for Specific Purposes, and
Rhetoric and Composition; and assist the Department in a variety of
academic and administrative duties. The successful candidate will be
offered a joint appointment with another academic unit of the
University. The post is a substantiation-track position.
Requirements:
A PhD in English Linguistics/Applied Linguistics/Rhetoric and
Composition/Business or Technical Communication or related
disciplines, with a strong and ambitious research agenda. Experience
and background in teaching discipline-specific writing and
communication skills to ESL students is desirable. Ideally, candidates
should combine a knowledge of specific subject areas (engineering,
science, business) with research interests in ESP/EAP and an interest
in working from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Salary and Conditions of Service:
Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and
individual performance. Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave,
medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where
applicable). Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
