Description:
The University of Delaware Department of Linguistics and Cognitive
Science invites applications for a one-year (9 months) temporary
assistant professor position, to support the Department's
undergraduate teaching needs in the cognitive science and linguistics
majors. In particular, we seek candidates who can bridge the
undergraduate curriculum in speech pathology with the theoretical
linguistics curriculum.
Rank: Assistant Professor, non-tenure track (9-month hire); salary
competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities: The responsibility of the position is to teach a 3 + 3
load that will include a subset of these undergraduate courses:
- Introduction to communication disorders
- Audiology
- Laboratory phonetics
- Introduction to acoustic phonetics
- Anatomy and physiology of speech
- Clinical principles and procedures in speech pathology
- Language acquisition
- Introduction to linguistics
- Sociolinguistics.
Qualifications: Applicants for this position should have a Ph.D. in hand
or expect to complete their degree requirements prior to appointment.
The degree can be in linguistics, communication disorders, or related
fields.
The University: The University of Delaware is a private state-assisted
research university, enrolling approximately 20,000 students. The city
of Newark, with a population of approximately 30,000 is located in
northeastern Delaware, fourteen miles southwest of Wilmington, the
principal city of the state. Students and faculty enjoy easy access to
cultural events in Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore and Washington,
D.C.
The Department: The Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science
(http://www.ling.udel.edu) offers a PhD in Linguistics, a Master's
degree in Cognitive Science, a Bachelor of Science degree in Cognitive
Science, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics. The Department
is comprised of 9 full-time faculty and enrolls approximately 26 PhD
students, 7 MA students, 172 undergraduate majors and 58 minors.
