Abstract:

Die neue Auflage des Elementarbuches ist aufs gründlichste durchgearbeitet 
worden. Zum erstenmal habe ich versucht, die Ergebnisse der 
Intonationsforschungen von Sievers für die gotische Grammatik nutzbar zu 
machen. Jeder, der die Methode dieser Untersuchungen beherrscht, der zu 
selbstständiger nachprüfung imstande ist, weiß ihre Bedeutung zu würdigen. 
Den Fernerstehenden aber wird es willkommen sein, zu erfahren, was sich 
auf diesem Wege erreichen läßt. Manchen wird das, so hoffe ich, dazu 
anregen, sich mit diesem Forschungsmittel vertraut zu machen. (Aus dem

Sprachdenkmäler). Erster Hauptteil: Lautlehre (Konsonanten, Vokale, 
schwankende Schreibungen, Aussprache des Gotischen, Ablautsystem des 
Gotischen, Vokale und Konsonanten im Vergleich zum 
Gemeingermanischen) Zweiter Hauptteil: Formenlehre (Deklination, 
Konjugation, unregelmäßige Verba), Dritter Hauptteil: Syntax (Einfacher Satz, 
Nomen und Pronomen, Verbum Negation, Fragesatz, zusammengesetzte 
Sätze), Vierter Hauptteil: Texte (Mattheus-Evangelium u.a.)
