Description:
The Department of Second Language Studies announces a one-year
Visiting Assistant Professorship. The successful candidate will hold (by
August 1, 2012) a PhD in Second Language Studies, Linguistics,
Applied Linguistics, or related field, and be engaged in research on
instructed second language acquisition and/or engaged in the
development of evidence-based instruction. Research potential is
expected in an additional area of language research such as
pragmatics, sociolinguistics, assessment, or L2 phonology.
Documented excellence in teaching, which should include classroom
teaching of English as a second or foreign language, is required.
The teaching load will be two courses per semester and include such
courses as Teaching English for Academic Purposes, Methods for
Teaching ESL/EFL to Adults, and undergraduate Teaching
Second/Foreign Languages to Adults. Shared supervision of graduate
student teaching assistants in ESL. Applicants should send a statement
of interest, curriculum vitae, sample publications, and three letters of
recommendation to Professor Kathleen Bardovi-Harlig at the application
