Meeting Description:
Utrecht University is organizing a two-day workshop on the topic of disfluencies in spoken language (pauses, uhm's, slow tempo, corrections, and repetitions). The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers from various fields of linguistics. We invite psycholinguists and phoneticians who investigate hesitations or disfluencies in spoken language from a cognitive perspective, and applied linguists who investigate disfluencies from an educational/language testing perspective.
Invited Speakers/Discussants:
Dr. Martin Corley (Department of Psychology, University of Edinburgh, UK)
Prof. Robert Hartsuiker (Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Ghent, Belgium)
Prof. John de Jong (VU University, Amsterdam; Vice President of Test Development at Pearson Language Tests, London, UK)
Prof. Antje Meyer (Director of Psychology of Language Department, MPI for Psycholinguistics, Nijmegen)
Dr. Joan Carles Mora (English Department, University of Barcelona, Spain)
Prof. Norman Segalowitz (Department of Psychology, Concordia University, Canada)
The workshop is funded by the Education and Learning Sciences program from Utrecht University, and by the 'Aspasia' Fund at Utrecht University.
Call for Papers:
We are inviting abstracts for oral and poster presentations at this workshop. The presentations should address issues such as speaker- and listener-oriented causes of disfluencies in speech, subjective and objective measures of fluency for the purpose of language testing, individual differences in native and non-native aspects of fluency, cognitive bases of second language fluency, and related issues.
Your abstract should be no longer than 300 words, in English only. Send your abstract as plain text in the email itself (do not use attachments) to workshopfluentspeech at gmail.com before August 15, 2012.
