As of the start of the 2013 academic year, there will be a vacancy for a
Professor of Interlinguistics and Esperanto (special chair) on behalf of
Universala Esperanto-Asocio. For further information, please visit our

Duties:
-teaching subjects in the area of Interlinguistics and Esperanto;
-supervising theses;
-conducting research and supervising PhD research projects;
-acting as a conduit between Universala Esperanto-Asocio and the UvA;
-actively improving the chair’s image and visibility through his/her actions
within and outside the UvA.
Requirements:
-excellent research abilities, as evidenced by an academic dissertation and
other high-profile academic publications and activities;
-broad and demonstrable expertise in the area of linguistics, with a special
focus on the field described above;
-solid teaching skills and experience, at the level of both academic students
and other target groups;
-good interpersonal, organisational skills and leadership skills;
-knowledge of the potential for knowledge-valorisation within the scope of the
education-related task.

Appointment:
The professor must be available to carry out the duties connected with his/her
position for an average of one day per week. The professorship will not result
in an employment contract with Universala Esperanto-Asocio or the University
of Amsterdam (UvA), and will not be formally remunerated.
However, each year an amount of up to €20,000 will be made available to cover
costs involved in performing the required duties and ensure the availability
of the professor. This amount will be allocated in consultation with the
Curatorial Panel. The professorship cannot be combined with a contract of
employment at the UvA’s Faculty of Humanities. The professor will be appointed
for a five-year term.
Job Application:
The professor will be selected by the Curatorial Panel of the special chair.
The Curatorial Panel, which during the selection procedure may seek the
assistance of one or more advisers, consists of the following members:
Professor D. Gorter, J.H. Erasmus and Professor P.C. Hengeveld.
The Curatorial Panel will submit a nomination to the Board of Universala
Esperanto-Asocio, subject to the approval of the Faculty of Humanities Dean
and the Executive Board. The application procedure may include a trial
lecture.

Interlinguistics and Esperanto by January 5th, 2013 at the latest, c/o
University of Amsterdam, Faculty of Humanities, Personnel and Organisation

stating the job vacancy number and ‘strictly confidential’ in the top left
hand corner of the envelope, accompanied by a CV, a list of publications,
three major publications that pre-eminently support the candidate’s
application and proposals for a research project and a series of lectures.
