Meeting Description:

The Institute of the Estonian Language is pleased to host a conference entitled ‘Colour Language and Colour Categorization’ (CLCC) on 4-7 June, 2013 in Tallinn, Estonia. The conference aims to bring together linguists, psycholinguists, psychologists, cognitive scientists and cultural anthropologists studying colour language and colour categorization, as well as their underlying cognitive processes. The event endeavours to create a forum for scholars to explore how we talk about colours and how we often categorize them in language and the brain across diverse languages and cultures, as well as to discuss the future of colour research.

2nd Call for Papers:

We warmly invite you to submit abstracts that explore one or more of the following areas:

1) Synchronic empirical case studies of individual languages (including indigenous non-standardized languages and sign languages)
2) Diachronic studies of colour language and change
3) Comparative synchronic and/or diachronic cross-linguistic studies
4) Colour language as part of underlying cultural-historical processes
5) Colour categorization in mind and brain
6) Sociolinguistic variation and change of colour lexicon (including gender and age variation)
7) Bilingualism and colour cognition
8) Corpus linguistic studies
9) Colours in grammar (grammaticalization, word formation and semantics of parts-of-speech)
10) Methodological issues and instruments for studying colour language and categorization in the laboratory and in the field

We encourage papers focused on the topics listed. If you wish to submit a paper on a topic different than those listed above, you can contact the organizers for further information.

Panel sessions and poster presentations are equally welcome. A panel should include a 300 word description and four abstracts related to the panel theme. Abstracts should be formatted in line with the general abstract template and sent to the following email: abstracts.colour at eki.ee.
 
You will receive an acknowledgement of acceptation by 11 February 2013.

Submission of Abstracts:

Abstracts of no more than 300 words (excluding title and references), in either Word or PDF format should be sent to the following email: abstracts.colour at eki.ee. Abstracts should clearly present a specific thesis statement and include a description of the topic, approach, and conclusions.

Abstract template: Times New Roman, Normal, 12pt, 1.5 line spacing, foreign words spelled in Italics. For glossing, follow the Leipzig Glossing Rules (http://www.eva.mpg.de/lingua/resources/glossing-rules.php).

Please indicate whether your submission is meant for an oral or poster session. Each oral session will consist of a 20-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion. There will be no parallel sessions.

All submissions will be reviewed anonymously. However, the abstract page must be accompanied with a separate sheet with your first name and surname, academic affiliation, postal address and email. Your identity and personal information will be kept separately from your abstract.
