Description:

The Spanish and Portuguese Program in the Department of Languages,
Literatures and Cultures at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites
applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professorship in Hispanic
Linguistics to begin September 1, 2013. Interested candidates must have a
PhD in hand by the time of appointment. The desirable candidate will
complement the current strengths of our Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. programs.
Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Phonetics and/or
Phonology. However, candidates with strong research records in Semantics,
Pragmatics or related fields will also be considered. Native or near native
fluency in Spanish and English is required. Knowledge of Portuguese,
Catalan or a native language of Latin America is highly desirable. Duties
include teaching Hispanic Linguistics courses at the undergraduate and
graduate levels, advising undergraduate and graduate students, directing
theses and dissertations in his/her area of expertise, and performing
service duties as required by the department and the University. Candidates
should have a distinguished research and teaching record.  

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Applicants must submit a letter of application, CV, sample of
scholarly work, statement of teaching and research philosophy, and three
letters of recommendation to the mailing address below. All applications
will be acknowledged. 

Screening of applications will begin December 7, 2012. Initial interviews
of candidates will be conducted at the January 2013 MLA Convention in
Boston, MA.
