Description:
Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor in Applied Linguistics
The Position:
Indiana University of Pennsylvania invites applications for two tenure-
track positions at the Assistant or, if qualified, Associate Professor rank
to begin in Fall 2013. We seek teacher-scholars with proven expertise
in critical approaches to language teaching. Ideal candidates will be
applied linguists who understand and research literacy and second
language teaching. Knowledge of critical theory and L1 composition
are also desirable.
All candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching, scholarship,
and service. In addition, candidates for the Associate Professor rank
must also demonstrate a substantial record of publication and
significant grant writing credentials as well as evidence of professional
leadership.
IUP is highly committed to first rate teaching. All English faculty at IUP
regularly teach first- and second-year composition courses; therefore,
excellence in teaching ability is a critical job requirement. Candidates
must be willing and qualified to teach a wide range of doctoral,
master's, and undergraduate courses. Participation in the graduate
program also regularly includes teaching a graduate course in the
summer for additional compensation. Active participation in
departmental service and student advising is also expected.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. must be in hand at the time of employment. In addition to
expertise and scholarship in the specified field, all candidates must
have proven excellence in teaching, including teaching composition,
and a demonstrated commitment to service. Candidates must
communicate effectively and perform well during the interview process,
which may include a teaching demonstration.

- curriculum vita
- three letters of recommendation
- one sample scholarly publication
- a one-page teaching philosophy statement
- graduate academic transcripts
For full consideration, completed applications are due Nov. 26, 2012.
Screening will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
We plan to screen applicants by telephone and will invite candidates
for campus visits shortly thereafter.
