Invitational Round: March 19, 2013

The North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad (NACLO, http://www.naclo.cs.cmu.edu) is a contest for high school and middle school students in which they learn by solving puzzles. Each puzzle is about a human language or a computational technique for natural language processing. There is no prerequisite knowledge and no registration fee.  

Professionals in linguistics, computational linguistics and language technologies use dozens of languages to create engaging problems that represent cutting edge issues in their fields. The competition has attracted top students to study and work in those same fields. This is a fun and challenging educational opportunity.

How high school and middle school students in North America can participate: Click on the registration link at http://www.naclo.cs.cmu.edu. Use the web site to browse past contests and practice problems. Have fun! 

How university professors and students can participate: Publicize NACLO at high schools near you and/or host the contest at your university.
