Call for papers for a Special Volume of the journal Linguisticæ Investigationes, titled 'Adverbs and Adverbial Complements'
Editors:
- Ignazio Mauro Mirto (Palermo, IT) - ignazio.mirto at libero.it
- Jan Radimský (České Budějovice, CZ) - radimsky at ff.jcu.cz
The contributions will focus on:
Morphological and lexical analysis:
- identification, description and classification of those categories likely to assume an adverbial function (adverbs, noun phrases, prepositional phrases, subordinate clauses, etc.)
- simple adverbs vs. multi-word expressions functioning as adverbs (frozen adverbials)
- construction of taxonomic or specialized resources
Syntactic analysis:
- adverbials syntactic positions inside sentences
- attachment problems (e.g., phrasal adverbs vs. adverbial complements)
- adverbials modifying noun phrases (e.g., yesterday's meeting, people from here)
Semantic and pragmatic analysis:
- semantic functions of adverbials (temporal, aspectual, locative, quantitative, modal, appreciative, etc.)
- adverbials and quantifiers
- evaluative adverbials (e.g., fortunately, he left)
- discursive functions of adverbials (framing, topical, conjunctive, etc.)
- scope of adverbials
- disambiguation adverbials
Format of the contribution:
- all contributions will follow the guidelines of the review Lingvisticae investigationes, available at:

- the maximum length of the paper is 20,000 characters (spaces included);
- authors should send their paper in electronic format (DOCX, DOC, or RTF) to the editors of the volume

The selection of papers for the planned volume will take into account the contributions accepted for the thematic session of the 31st International Conference on Lexis and Grammar. However, in order to broaden the horizon of the volume, the editors will also evaluate the papers proposed for the present call.
Reviewing procedure:
The committee will follow a double-blind reviewing procedure. The editors of the volume will ensure that each contribution will be reviewed by at least two members of the scientific committee. The contributions for the thematic session of the conference will be evaluated by following the same procedure as those submitted for this call.
