Full Title: International Studies in Humour
Linguistic Field(s): Discourse Analysis; Pragmatics; Translation
Call Deadline: 15-Jul-2013
Submissions are invited to the new journal International Studies in Humour
(ISSN 2052-3475). Two issues per year are envisaged. This scholarly, refereed
journal is published online. We aim at as high quality as that of the leading
printed journals in humour studies, humor in English and Humoresques in
French. The field has grown, and so have journal backlogs. There clearly is
room for this new journal. Submissions should be in English or French.
The journal International Studies in Humour has a distinguished international
advisory board, whose members come from various disciplinary compartments
within humour studies. The editor is Ephraim Nissan, who is also
editor-in-chief of the Benjamins book series Topics in Humor Research.
Of course, pragmaticians, cognitivists, and authors in translation studies are
most welcome. In pragmatics in particular, the journal’s main editorial
consultant is Marta Dynel; other members of the board active in pragmatics
include Salvatore Attardo, Piotr Cap, Wallace Chafe, Marcelo Dascal, László
Imre Komlósi, Zohar Livnat, Neal Norrick, Victor Raskin, Francisco Yus.
Cognitivists include Benjamin Bergen, Giovannantonio Forabosco, Raymond Gibbs,
Sander Gilman, Norman Holland, Nick Kuiper, Andrew Ortony, Stephen Schmidt,
Danica Škara, Akira Utsumi. In translation studies, members of the journal
board providing expertise on translating humour include Delia Chiaro
andYen-Maï Tran-Gervat.
The scope of the journal is strongly inter- and multidisciplinary; for
example, issue 2(1) of 2013, of nearly 250 pages, comprises regular articles
in epistemology, psychology, and folklore studies, as well as review essays in
pragmatics, the zoological imaginary, and the history of political cartoons,
as well as book reviews.
Inquiries and submissions should be directed to the editorby email at
ephraim.nissan at hotmail.co.uk
The deadline for this call is July 15, 2013. However, submissions received
after this date will be considered for future issues.
