Meeting Description:
Friends of Uto-Aztecan Conference, 2013
This year the Friends of Uto-Aztecan Conference will be held in Boise, Idaho on the campus of Boise State University, from June 14-15, 2013. Tim Thornes will be responsible for organizing this year’s FUAC.
The region in and around Boise Valley is the aboriginal territory of indigenous groups representing the northernmost reaches of the Uto-Aztecan language family. Boise has a population of over 200,000 and is also home to the largest Basque immigrant population in the world.
The Boise airport has connecting flights to numerous major hubs. The city boasts a wide variety of excellent restaurants, museums (including the ‘Basque Block’), and opportunities for outdoor activities, including miles of hiking trails, bicycle paths, fly-fishing spots on campus, and opportunities for rafting through town on the lovely Boise River. Shuttle service from area hotels to the conference venue on the BSU campus will be provided as needed. Shuttle to and from the airport is also available.
A conference fee of $20 for students and $40 for all others will go toward coverage of beverage service, a Saturday box lunch, and other facilities expenses.
Note: Two hotels near the conference have offered special room rates of $77.00 per night for Friends of Uto-Aztecan conference-goers.
The Grove Hotel in downtown Boise is less than one mile to the conference site (shuttle service to the site in the morning and back to hotel in the evening) will be provided. The Grove is close to numerous downtown restaurants and shopping, and standard room rates (without the FUAC discount) are $169.00. The non-government rate for FUAC is still heavily discounted at $88.00.
The Marriott Towneplace Suites is located directly across Capitol Boulevard from campus and is less than a mile from downtown. For those who like to walk or bike, the Boise State campus and both hotels are near large parks and the Greenbelt biking/walking paths on either side of the Boise River.
