Institute of Modern Languages, State School of Higher Professional Education, Konin, Poland, Department of English Studies, Faculty of Pedagogy and Fine Arts in Kalisz, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland and Institute of English Studies, Faculty of Philology, University of Łódź, Poland in collaboration with IATEFL Research SIG (http://resig.weebly.com) are happy to announce 3rd International Conference on Classroom-Oriented Research: Reconciling Theory and Practice.

Theme:

The conference will be devoted to various aspects of broadly-understood second/foreign language classroom-oriented research and provide a forum for disseminating latest research findings in this area, which is critical for foreign and second language pedagogy. In particular, it will focus on the ways in which theoretical positions and empirical findings can inform everyday classroom practice. The event will be of relevance not only to academics, researchers, teacher educators and material writers, but also to language teachers wishing to enhance their instructional practices.

Venue:

The venues for this year’s event will be the Hotel ‘Atut’, ul. Toruńska 27, Licheń Stary (http://www.hotelatut.pl/en) and the Conference Center of State School of Higher Professional Education in Konin, Poland at Popiełuszki 4 St. Transportation to both places will be provided by the organizers.  

The place to get to is Konin, which is situated in the centre of Poland, in the east of Greater Poland Voivodship. It is located 200 kilometers away from Warsaw, the Polish capital, 100 kilometers away from Poznań, the Voivodship capital, and 160 kilometers away from the city of Wrocław. All of these cities have international airports with flights to major European hubs and they have direct bus and train connections with Konin.

Call for Papers:

We welcome contributions related to the theme of the conference in the form of papers (20 minutes + 10 minutes for discussion), workshops (60 minutes) and posters which could, among other things, focus on the following areas: 

- Theoretical foundations of classroom-oriented research
- Teaching language skills and subsystems
- Developing intercultural competence in the language classroom 
- Individual differences and language learning and teaching
- Learner autonomy and language learning strategies 
- Classroom interaction and management
- Teachers’ knowledge and beliefs
- Teacher education
- Coursebooks and materials
- Syllabus design
- Assessing second language knowledge
- Methodology of classroom-oriented research
- Disseminating the findings of classroom-oriented research

Abstracts of papers and workshops in the range of 250-300 words should be submitted by email to classroomresearch2013 at gmail.com by June 10, 2013. The proposals should include the title, name, affiliation, email address and a short biographical note, about 60-80 words in length. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by June 30, 2013. 

Publication of Papers:

Selected papers will be published in a peer-reviewed volume with a leading international publishing house as well as the journal Studies in Second Language Learning and Teaching (http://www.ssllt.amu.edu.pl). Further information concerning the publication and the submission guidelines will be sent after the conference.
