Meeting Description:
The University of Pavia (Italy) together with the national research project PRIN 2009 (‘Second Languages/Foreign Languages in Multilingual Europe: Acquisition, Interaction, Teaching’) and the Research Group on Spoken Communication within the Italian Association of Linguistics (GSCP: http://www.gscp.it) is pleased to announce the conference on ‘[Italian] L2 Spoken Discourse: Pragmatic and Prosodic Aspects’ to be held on September 5-7, 2013, in Pavia (Italy).
The goal of the conference is to bring together researchers working on the complex interplay among the different levels of second language competence and use (including information structure, morphosyntax, prodosy and lexis) and on the role of L1 in communicative practices and in thinking for speaking, with reference to Italian and other L2. The conference will feature contributions from Italian and international invited speakers.
Call for Papers:
We invite abstracts for oral presentations on any of the following topics:
- Analysis and acquisition of information structure in L2 spoken (Italian) discourse: management and coding of topic and focus, marked orders, referential means, linking devices
- The development of interactional competence in L2: research methodology and tools, empirical studies
- The acquisition of prosody in (Italian) L2: research methodology and tools, empirical studies
- Methodological issues in the investigation of L2 spoken discourse, with reference to its transcription and annotation
- Comparing same genre written and oral texts in L2
Important Dates:
Submission deadline: April 30, 2013
Notification of acceptance: May 20, 2013
Instructions for Abstract Submission:
Abstracts are not to exceed 1,000 words. Please submit your abstract (as anonymous email attachments) to convegno.parlatoL2 at unipv.it, with the following object: ‘conference abstract’ by April 30, 2013.
Include information about the research theoretical and methodological framework and a summary of the findings to be presented. Submissions should highlight the innovative nature of the work and its theoretical and empirical implications.
Please indicate on the top of your abstract the title of the presentation, but do not write the name(s) of its author(s). Include the name(s) of the contributors, institution, title of the presentation, email and postal address of the author(s) in a separate file.
The official languages of the conference are Italian, English and French. The presentation material will have to be in a language different from the one used in the oral presentation, possibly English or Italian.
Selection Criteria:
Proposals will be selected according to the following criteria: relevance to the topics of the conference, scientific relevance and overall clarity of the proposal.
