Description:
The Department of Modern Languages and Classics at The University of Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Spanish starting August 16, 2014. The successful applicant will primarily serve as Language Program Director of a vibrant and established coordinated program of elementary and intermediate Spanish language courses, develop curriculum, supervise graduate teaching assistants and instructors, teach undergraduate classes in Spanish, and instruct graduate classes in foreign language teaching methodology and in second language acquisition. Service expectations will be commensurate with rank.
Requirements include: a Ph.D. or Ed.D. (or the equivalent) with a focus in Spanish linguistics or in second language acquisition/pedagogy with an emphasis on Spanish in hand by August 16, 2014. Preference will be given to applicants who also demonstrate experience in language coordination and use of instructional technology to support the basic level hybrid program. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and demonstrated excellence in teaching required. Hiring for this position is contingent upon available funding.
